Are you looking to make more money online through your business or website? Like with any good money making venture, you will need an affiliate marketing strategy.

Your own affiliate marketing strategy will depend on a couple of different aspects, and you have to make sure that your strategy is suited to you and your needs.

Affiliate marketing strategies really depend on your own personal and business marketing and revenue objectives and the perspectives that these objectives come from.

For example if your company offers products and you want to expand your sales you could engage in affiliate marketing by joining an affiliate marketing programs or by getting other websites to sell your product for you. For example Amazon.com has an associates program, where they take a commission from every product they sell.

The most successful strategies ensure that you have clear and definite criteria for accepting affiliates. And you need to make sure that you are encouraging a commission structure and that you have a fraud mechanism in place to protect you from losing money.

You need to be aware of your own policies and branding. Whether you will take pay per click clients, or offer pay per click on your banners. What sort of branding do you want for your product/website, and make sure you only accept providers/advertisers that are in line with those needs.

If you are focusing your affiliate marketing strategy on improving your search engine ranking, establishing a PPC campaign or setting up a high quality website with good content then there is one thing you definitely need to be doing. You need to start thoroughly researching hot niche keywords. These will help you attract much more traffic to your site and also maximize the benefits of your campaigns.

You need to do a lot of research to find the hot niche keywords that have low competition – this truly is an element that will greatly enhance your success.

I think that a very important and effective affiliate marketing strategy is in your content creation. You can get significantly more effective results with much less competition. To do this you need to be researching niche keywords thoroughly.

If you own a website and you want to boost your revenue potential by selling or advertising products and services from other companies, then the most effective strategies are really about the identification and selection of which affiliate programs and products that you choose to have on your site.

Choosing an affiliate marketing strategy that is right for you is one of the most important business decisions you will make. Your strategy is what will really shape the decisions that you make.

Being good at affiliate marketing isn’t as easy as just sticking up a few banners online and waiting for the cash. You have to do market research, you have to know your target audience and you have to understand the more delicate ins and outs of the business and have a real commitment to what you are doing.

You need to be doing constant research on the market, on what ad sizes are getting the most revenue, on the change in the economy and on what your target audience is looking for.

The idea of one person selling products on behalf of someone else, and receiving a commission in return is nothing new. As a marketing method it has been around for probably thousands of years. The idea of affiliate marketing took a little longer to make it onto the Internet though.

The World Wide Web as we know it came into existence in 1990, but it was not until 1994 that the first company applied affiliate marketing methods to its sales strategy. That company was in the adult industry, which often seems to be at the forefront of marketing innovation. However, soon after that the online music store CDNow began to operate what is generally considered to be the first non-adult affiliate program.

A couple of years later, in 1996, Amazon launched their Associates Program and affiliate marketing really took off.

Affiliate marketing is an alluringly simple idea: you show an offer from a third party company to your website visitors or newsletter readers and if they click through and buy, you get an agreed commission. Those commissions can be anywhere from a few percent, right up to 100% of the products’ sales price.

Yes, some vendors will give affiliates the full value of the sale because they know that the lifetime value of a new customer is worth far more to them in the long term.

Affiliate marketing can go under many different names: associate marketing, partners programs, joint ventures and revenue sharing. Some affiliate programs are open to anyone while others insist on pre-approving applicants. Still others are only available to people who have bought the product.

It is very possible to become an affiliate for an individual company or product vendor as many run their own affiliate programs. However, the majority are run through affiliate management companies. Possibly the best known of these for online marketers are ClickBank, who specialize in digitally downloadable products and Commission Junction who represent thousands of companies under one roof.

All affiliate programs have their pros and cons. ClickBank, for example, are blissfully simple to use. You pick a product from their marketplace and they instantly give you an affiliate link to use. You need to sign up with them to become a member, but that takes only a few moments and is free. Commissions are generally between 50% and 75%. The downside is that ClickBank make it almost too easy for customers to get refunds and there is always a question-mark over how efficient their link tracking mechanism is.

Despite the potential problems, many Internet marketers make a lot of money from selling ClickBank products.

Commission Junction is great for marketers who don’t want to be part of the Internet marketing niche and prefer to sell real products from real world niches. The choice is huge at CJ, but you do have to apply to be an affiliate for each company individually.

As you also have to apply to be a member of CJ initially, the reapplication every time you find something you want to promote can be annoying, and very often the companies concerned will reject your application without giving any reason.

Commission levels at Commission Junction are usually much lower – a few percent of the price, but as the products are often in high demand, you can make up for the lower commissions by volume.

Amazon, as mentioned earlier, run their own affiliate, or as they call it, Associates Program. It is free to join and pays a sliding scale of commissions depending on the volume of sales you make. Expect to start out at around 4 or 5%.

The great beauty of Amazon is that once you’ve sent them a customer for a specific product, Amazon are experts at building up the value of the sale by offering all kinds of other products (‘customers who bought this, also like that’). As you get commission on the entire value of the shopping basket, you can often end up with a lot more than you expected.

Many affiliate programs now offer recurring income products and services, so you could make a sale for, for example, a membership site, and receive a monthly commission payment for as long as your referral remains a member. These residual income streams, as they are known, can quickly mount up and provide you with a regular paycheck for months or even years to come.

If you have a website that gets a lot of traffic, a blog with a regular readership or have built up a mailing list with whom you’ve established a trusting relationship, affiliate marketing can be very easy money. You hold no stock. write no sales letters, deal with no customer service issues and generally avoid all the hassles that product owners and vendors have to face.

Making money online doesn’t get much easier than affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketers simply make recommendations, or put up a few banner ads on their sites, and then sit back and take their cut. There need be no overheads to start and you could be earning commissions in minutes.

If you have heard about affiliate marketing being a great way to make money online then you are probably wondering, how does affiliate marketing work?

Affiliate marketing is a very popular way of promoting internet based businesses in which a website owner, called an affiliate, is rewarded for advertising the said business on their site. The affiliate is given a certain amount of money for every visitor, subscriber and customer that is provided through the advertising that the affiliate does on behalf of the business.

Payment is made by the business to the affiliate under three basic schemes.

Firstly there is compensation paid based on a certain monetary value for each visit. When a visitor clicks on an advertiser’s banner and is redirected to that businesses online sales pitch then the affiliate is being paid under a scheme called pay-per-click.

There is also commission that can be paid if the visitor signs up for the business, program etc. And that is called pay-per-lead.

Or the affiliate can get a commission based on any sales that are actually made, this is normally considered the largest commission and it is called pay-per-sale.

When considering how does affiliate marketing work, you should understand the relationship between the merchant and the affiliate. This system works well for the merchant because they don’t have to pay any money to the affiliate until results are being achieved.

It also works really well for the affiliate, because once they have set up the links and banners, then they don’t have to do any more hands on work for that merchant, the visitors will do the work and the affiliate will see the money.

If you are considering how does affiliate marketing work and you are considering going into the field as a merchant or an affiliate then you need to ensure that you do lots of research.

There are thousands of companies online who want to pay a performance-based commission to anyone who will encourage and drive more sales to their website by advertising and pushing their products or services.

You can do this sort of work by joining a good affiliate program which is run by the companies. With an affiliate program you can pick and choose which products you will advertise and get banners and key words to start your work with.

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online but it takes time and effort to succeed. There is a steep learning curve and you will have failures before you start really making great revenue – stick with it, the rewards really are worth it.

As we have discussed, there are a lot of different ways of being an affiliate and it works because it is a low risk industry. You don’t have to shell out much money to get started and there are thousands of markets and products to choose from for you to promote.

You should start by joining a good affiliate network to get yourself started. Now you know the basics of how affiliate marketing works you should get out there and start doing research into which product is right for you, and what sort of affiliate you want to be!

Affiliate Payrise - How To Make A Fortune Promoting Other People's Products. There must be a reason why some affiliates succeed and some fail, a reason why some affiliates profit moderately and some affiliates profit substantially.

How to Make a Fortune Promoting Other People’s Products
By Jimmy D. Brown of “Affiliate Payrise”

…………………….

There must be a reason why some affiliates succeed and some fail, a reason why some affiliates profit moderately and some affiliates profit substantially.

There must be a reason.

There is.

And that reason is this: “super” affiliates start, sustain and strengthen relationships with subscribers.

It begins and ends with a list. Even a small one can be a powerful, profitable mechanism if you follow these 7 guidelines…

1. CAPTURE THE OPTIN FIRST.

Instead of sending traffic directly to your affiliate link, send them to YOUR site where you offer some kind of list for them to join. (Hint: Mini-course works best) Once you have them on a list, they become an asset. If you send them directly to an affiliate page and they don’t buy, they’re gone forever. On your list, you can follow-up with them indefinitely.

Note: You can even redirect them to your affiliate link AFTER they join your list, effectively getting them where you wanted them to go in the first place.

2. DIFFERENTIATE THE OFFER.

Instead of sending out the same, tired, lame advertisement that every other affiliate in the world sends out, write your own. Trust me when I say that many people find it OFFENSIVE when they receive two dozens duplicate emails from two dozen list owners all promoting the exact same thing in the exact same way.
And even if they don’t find it offensive, it’s not as effective if you simply rinse and repeat what everyone else is doing.

Hint: Here’s how you differentiate…

3. SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE.

Nothing – nothing – nothing speaks louder than RESULTS. If you want to lose a few pounds, who do you turn to? Someone who is still struggling with their own weight or someone you’ve seen drop 35 pounds? Exactly.

The way you make your mailings / ads different is you speak from your own personal experience. This product or service that you are promoting as an affiliate, how has it been useful to you personally? What results have you personally achieved? When you used it, what happened?

Note: If you haven’t personally used the product, then shame on you for trying to make a quick buck from it hocking it to others!

4. OFFER A COMPELLING INCENTIVE.

Another way to be different – and to dramatically increase your chances of getting a sale as an affiliate – is to offer some kind of compelling incentive if someone buys the offer through YOUR referral link. Whether it’s a special report or access to an audio recording, personalized consultation or advertising, a private training call or existing products and services, this can be a highly effective method of converting fence-setters into paying customers.

In order for it to work well, it must be UNIQUE (I.E. You’re the only one making the offer) and USEFUL (I.E. Something of great perceived value to the reader).

Note: Don’t have anything to offer? Don’t worry! There are many ways to easily obtain extra incentives: conduct an interview, hire a ghostwriter to create articles / reports for you, buy reprint rights to other products, assemble a bunch of free articles and other resources into a private access site, etc.

5. LOOK FOR RESIDUAL OPPORTUNITIES.

Rather than exhaust your efforts on purchases that give you a one-time commission, why not make the most of your marketing by looking firstly for offers that pay out ONGOING monthly commissions for your referred sales?

There are many different residual income generating services such as membership sites (ranging from PT Cruisers to weight loss), stock photos and clipart, hosting, autoresponders, databases (from hiking trails to sermon outlines) online magazines and a variety of other subscription based opportunities that reward you with monthly recurring commissions.

While you definitely want a mix of types of affiliate programs to promote, your priority should be in identifying and promoting those services and programs that will pay you month after month, instead of only one time.

6. BUILD A SALES ARMY.

One of the biggest untapped sources of income in any list is that of “turning subscribers into partners”. In other words, find those on your list who are interested in making money and provide them with training and materials to promote affiliate programs as well.

This has a two-fold advantage for YOU:

* First, if you find 2-tier affiliate programs, you can get your subscribers to join the program through your referral. Anytime they get a sale, you’ll earn a commission as well. You effectively get free commissions from their effort.

* Secondly, you can use their efforts to build your own assets. For example: If you provide them with a 10-page report to give away to promote their affiliate link, you can include a page in the report promoting YOUR list! You effectively get free subscribers from their effort.

7. MONETIZE FOR MULTIPLE STREAMS.

As your own list continues to grow, you certainly want to diversify in your offerings. (Not to the point of bombarding your list with offers every day of course!)

* Promote other affiliate programs.
* Create your own products.
(Even short $10 reports will earn profit!)
* Establish joint ventures.
* Co-author products.
* Cross promote.
* Conduct surveys.

There are MANY ways to make money from you list and keep your list growing, growing, growing!

Remember, it all comes down to: starting, sustaining and strengthening relationships with subscribers. And that’s how you make a fortune as an affiliate promoting other people’s products.

…………………….

Brown is the author of “Affiliate Payrise“, teaching you a whopping 27 ways to increase your affiliate commissions!
